The Lyderhorn Choir is a mixed choir founded in Bergen in 1973.

The choir currently has approximately 50 members. We hold concerts, seminars, summer and Christmas parties, and we also go on trips together. We rehearse at Nordnes Community Center every Wednesday from 7:00 PM to 9:45 PM. Geographically, we are located in the city center, but our heart is on the left side.

The choir is socially engaged and committed to international solidarity. This commitment is reflected in our repertoire. The songs we sing come from many parts of the world, but Norwegian folk music also means a lot to us. Along with our conductor, we consciously work to develop musically. Therefore, the biannual seminars often include vocal technique on the program. May 1st is a very busy day for us. We gather for a communal breakfast and warm up before going to the city to sing at several events throughout the day. We also participate in the May 1st parade. Additionally, we perform in connection with International Week and similar events, and we try to arrange one to two concerts of various formats each year.

The choir has been on trips to South Africa, Cuba, Palestine, Armenia, and Georgia, providing us with unforgettable encounters with people and great musical experiences. Here is a report from Armenian television about our visit to the Genocide Museum in Yerevan.

In Easter 2003, when the choir was on a trip to South Africa, we visited the Botshabelo orphanage outside Johannesburg. We saw that they were struggling and needed help, and when we returned to Norway, we decided to engage in committed aid work for Botshabelo. Every month, we send money that goes towards food, clothing, education, and housing. In 2020, we sent around 800,000 NOK. Every autumn, we organize a bazaar with a raffle, as well as the sale of calendars and cards. The bazaar is packed with great prizes, serving coffee and cakes, and featuring musical performances by, among others, the Lyderhorn Choir. All contributions go directly to the work for Botshabelo.
